Adrià Deyza is a Mediterranean tattooer born in Barcelona and currently based in Berlin. Deyza’s most recent work centers around traditional Mediterranean tattoos from the 13th and 14th century, which he often reimagines in full color and large scale.
Statement
“Sacred Heart Blast Over” is a modern adaptation of a Mediterranean pilgrim tattoo from the 13th century. This piece was tattooed on Mavi, a trans person looking to cover some of the scars caused by their top surgery and blast over an old pre-surgery tattoo. The old tattoo was originally designed to enhance the shape of the breasts and had become a contributing factor to Mavi’s gender dysphoria after the surgery.
